Walk Ambassadors

Walk Ambassadors

It’s official! Introducing the 2013 Walk Ambassadors:

JDRF Bay Area has selected seven young people to serve as Ambassadors for the 2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes. These extraordinary children and teens will assist JDRF in educating the community about what it is like living with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

AMY, 13, from Fremont, T1D since age 4
Amy loves swimming, doing puzzles and drawing. “The more you are in control of your blood sugars, the better off you are,” she says.

ANYA, 12, from San Ramon, T1D since age 8
Anya’s favorite pastimes are swimming, reading, listening to music and playing the bass, singing and cooking. “”Good things come from strange places, and that while T1D is life altering and often troublesome, it makes us more compassionate, responsible and more determined,” she says.

Kobi Allston-smKOBI, 14, San Leandro, T1D since age 9
Kobi is returning for her second year as Walk Ambassador. She enjoys sports and cooking. “We can eat whatever we want and we are able to handle ourselves,” she says.

Maddie Lietch_smMADDIE, 11, from San Anselmo, T1D since age 8
Maddie loves to play soccer and basketball, swimming, tap dancing, acting and playing the piano. “T1D is hard work and is a great responsibility,” she says.

SPEYTON, 9, from Mill Valley, T1D since age 18 mo.
Peyton’s hobbies include parkour, biking, skateboarding, snowboarding, drawing and building. “When I’m low I have to sit down and can’t play like the other kids. But the sensor is cool because I don’t have to check my blood as much,” he says.

Savannah Pasha_smSAVANNAH, 18, from San Rafael, T1D since age 13
Savannah is heading off to college this fall! She enjoys hiking, going to the beach, being with friends and listening to country music. “You can do anything if you don’t let T1D limit you,” she says.

ShelbySHELBY, 14, from American Canyon, T1D since age 2
Shelby loves baseball, dance, acting and singing. “I have a Continueous Glucose Monitoring System and an insulin pump. These things make me able to be the dancer, actress, singer and everyday teen that I am,” she says.

You will have the chance to meet the Ambassadors at the Walk Kick Off events this summer and, of course, at the Walk to Cure Diabetes in all four locations around the Bay Area in the month of October 2013.
